Reaching its six years anniversary, Le Meridien successfully opened up to 21 hotels in Europe, Africa, Canada, South America and Middle East. By the time in 1991, the total number of hotels under the name Le Meridien peaked to 58. With such success, there were a number of acquisitions went on for years starting in late 1994 until 2005. In November 2005, the brand Le Meridien as well as its business was successfully acquired by Starwood Capital Group that includes the Le Meridien Hotels and Resort portfolio.
